Description

Moist and fudgy banana bread brownies topped with a rich brown butter frosting. This easy recipe combines the comforting flavors of banana bread with the decadent texture of brownies, perfect for any occasion. Use overripe bananas to reduce food waste and enhance flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1/2 cup Sour Cream
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 2 medium Ripe Bananas
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Walnuts (optional)
  • For the Brown Butter Frosting:
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 2 cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 2 tablespoons Milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a 15×10-inch jelly roll pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together sugar, sour cream, butter, and eggs until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Mash ripe bananas and add to the wet ingredients with vanilla extract. Mix on low speed.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in walnuts if using. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  7. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat until golden brown and nutty, about 5-7 minutes. Let cool slightly.
  8. In a mixing bowl, whisk browned butter with powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth and creamy.
  9. Spread frosting evenly over slightly cooled brownies. Let the frosting set.

Notes

  • Use very ripe, spotty bananas for the best flavor and moisture.
  • Do not overmix the batter to ensure tender brownies.
  • Watch the butter closely when browning to prevent burning.
  • Allow brownies to cool slightly before frosting to prevent the frosting from melting.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • For longer storage, wrap unfrosted brownies tightly and freeze for up to 3 months.
  • Reheat unfrosted brownies in the microwave for 10-15 seconds for a fresh-baked feel.
