Description

A sweet and savory Italian baked chicken recipe coated in a brown sugar and Italian dressing mix for a lightly caramelized glaze. This easy dish is perfect for weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 (approx. 0.7-oz) packet dry Italian dressing seasoning mix
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (218°C). Line a baking dish with foil or spray with cooking spray.
  2. If using chicken breasts, pound them to an even thickness between plastic wrap or wax paper.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar and dry Italian seasoning mix until well combined.
  4. Season the chicken with salt and pepper.
  5. Coat both sides of each chicken piece with the brown sugar-seasoning mixture.
  6. Place the coated chicken in the prepared baking dish, sprinkling any leftover mixture over the top.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  8. For an extra caramelized top, broil for the last 1-2 minutes, watching closely to prevent burning.
  9. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving. Spoon pan juices over the chicken.

Notes

  • Chicken thighs can be used instead of breasts for juicier results.
  • Add smoked paprika or red pepper flakes to the seasoning mix for extra flavor or heat.
  • Honey or maple syrup can be used as a substitute for brown sugar.
  • Layer sliced onions or cherry tomatoes under the chicken for added flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat gently in the microwave or oven.
