Description

Enjoy these crispy fried jalapeño slices, a spicy and crunchy snack or appetizer. Each ring is battered and fried to golden perfection, offering a delightful contrast when served with cool ranch dressing. This easy recipe is perfect for gatherings or when you simply crave a flavorful, homemade treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Canola oil, for frying
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • ¾ to 1 cup club soda or sparkling water
  • 1½ cups fresh jalapeño slices, ¼-inch thick rings (from about 45 large jalapeños)
  • Optional: Ranch dressing, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Heat canola oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to 365°F (185°C).
  2. Prepare a paper towel-lined tray for draining the fried slices.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper.
  4. Add eggs and ¾ cup club soda, whisking until the batter is smooth. Thin with more sparkling water if needed to achieve a thinner-than-pancake consistency.
  5. Toss about half of the jalapeño slices in the batter, ensuring they are fully coated.
  6. Carefully drop each coated slice into the hot oil, one by one, allowing excess batter to drip off. Avoid overcrowding the pot.
  7. Fry the jalapeño slices for 4–5 minutes, until golden on both sides.
  8. Using a slotted spoon or skimmer, transfer the fried jalapeños to the paper towel-lined tray to drain.
  9. Repeat the frying process with the remaining slices.
  10. Serve the crispy fried jalapeño slices hot with ranch dressing for dipping.

Notes

  • For a milder flavor, remove seeds and membranes from jalapeños before slicing.
  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the batter for extra heat.
  • This recipe can be made gluten-free by using gluten-free flour and sparkling water.
  • Alternatives to ranch dressing include spicy mayo or a tangy yogurt sauce.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat in an oven or air fryer at 375°F for a few minutes until crispy. Avoid microwaving.
