Description

Soft, buttery, and fluffy homemade dinner rolls that are easy to make and perfect for any meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • Melted butter for brushing

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add softened butter, egg, salt, and a portion of the flour to the yeast mixture. Stir well.
  3. Gradually add remaining flour and knead until dough is soft and elastic.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled.
  5. Punch down dough, divide into equal portions, and shape into balls.
  6. Arrange rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise for 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Brush warm rolls with melted butter.

Notes

  • For a savory twist, add garlic powder or rosemary to the dough.
  • For a sweet version, add honey and top with a sugar glaze.
  • Replace some milk with heavy cream for extra richness.
  • Use whole wheat flour for half the flour amount for a rustic feel.
