- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- Melted butter for brushing
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Add softened butter, egg, salt, and a portion of the flour to the yeast mixture. Stir well.
- Gradually add remaining flour and knead until dough is soft and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled.
- Punch down dough, divide into equal portions, and shape into balls.
- Arrange rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Brush warm rolls with melted butter.
Notes
- For a savory twist, add garlic powder or rosemary to the dough.
- For a sweet version, add honey and top with a sugar glaze.
- Replace some milk with heavy cream for extra richness.
- Use whole wheat flour for half the flour amount for a rustic feel.
- Store leftover rolls in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

- Freeze cooled rolls tightly wrapped for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight and warm before serving.
