Description

This recipe guides you through making a Golden Greek Honey Pie, also known as Melopita. Enjoy a traditional Greek dessert with layers of flaky phyllo dough and a creamy semolina filling, drizzled with honey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 sheets phyllo dough
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup semolina flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup honey, warmed
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish for your Greek Honey Pie.
  2. Lay one sheet of phyllo in the dish. Brush generously with melted butter. Repeat with 6 more sheets, stacking them neatly to form the base of your Greek honey pie.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together semolina, eggs, sugar, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth. This is the creamy filling for your traditional Greek honey pie.
  4. Pour the mixture over the phyllo base.
  5. Top with the remaining phyllo sheet, brushing with butter between each layer. Score the top lightly with a knife to help the honey soak in.
  6. Bake your Greek honey pie for 40–45 minutes, or until golden brown and set.
  7. Let the Greek honey pie cool for 10 minutes.
  8. Drizzle warmed honey over the pie and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. Slice and serve your delicious Greek honey pie warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • Ensure phyllo dough is thawed according to package directions before using.
  • You can toast sesame seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat until fragrant.
  • For a richer flavor, you can add a bit of orange zest to the filling.
