Description
This recipe guides you through making a Golden Greek Honey Pie, also known as Melopita. Enjoy a traditional Greek dessert with layers of flaky phyllo dough and a creamy semolina filling, drizzled with honey.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 sheets phyllo dough
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup semolina flour
- 3 large eggs
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
- 1/2 cup honey, warmed
- 2 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish for your Greek Honey Pie.
- Lay one sheet of phyllo in the dish. Brush generously with melted butter. Repeat with 6 more sheets, stacking them neatly to form the base of your Greek honey pie.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together semolina, eggs, sugar, milk, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth. This is the creamy filling for your traditional Greek honey pie.
- Pour the mixture over the phyllo base.
- Top with the remaining phyllo sheet, brushing with butter between each layer. Score the top lightly with a knife to help the honey soak in.
- Bake your Greek honey pie for 40–45 minutes, or until golden brown and set.
- Let the Greek honey pie cool for 10 minutes.
- Drizzle warmed honey over the pie and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds. Slice and serve your delicious Greek honey pie warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- Ensure phyllo dough is thawed according to package directions before using.
- You can toast sesame seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat until fragrant.
- For a richer flavor, you can add a bit of orange zest to the filling.
