These irresistible rolls are easy to make and sure to impress family and friends, filling your home with the inviting aroma of autumn.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup whole milk (warm)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 3 Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples (peeled and chopped)
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, salt, and yeast.
  2. Warm the milk (not boiling) and pour it into the dry ingredients along with melted butter. Stir until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth. Place it in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  4. While rising, prepare the filling: Mix chopped apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, melted butter, and pecans in a bowl.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle (about ½ inch thick). Spread the apple filling evenly over it.
  6. Roll tightly from one edge to form a log and slice into rolls.
  7. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) while they rise.
  9. Bake for approximately 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Drizzle with icing made from powdered sugar mixed with milk before serving.

Notes

  • Use room temperature ingredients for a smoother dough that rises better.
  • Avoid overfilling the rolls to prevent messy baking.
  • Always let the rolls cool slightly before drizzling with icing; this prevents it from melting away!
  • Feel free to swap out traditional ingredients! Use pecans instead of walnuts for crunch or add a splash of bourbon to the icing for an adult twist. You could even throw in some dried cranberries for a festive touch.
  • Store your Fall Desserts: Apple Pie Cinnamon Rolls in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two days. For longer storage, refrigerate them and reheat in the oven for a few minutes to regain their fluffiness.
