Description

Smashed burgers are the ultimate comfort food, combining a crispy crust with a juicy interior for an unforgettable bite. This easy-to-follow recipe brings the joy of backyard cookouts right to your kitchen. Perfect for gatherings or a quick weeknight dinner, these customizable burgers will impress your family and friends with their mouthwatering flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tsp freshly cracked black pepper
  • 4 burger buns
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup lettuce, shredded
  • 1 large tomato, sliced
  • ½ cup dill pickles, sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat your griddle or skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 minutes.
  2. Divide the ground beef into four equal portions (about 4 ounces each) and roll them into balls without compressing too tightly.
  3. Place each ball on the hot cooking surface and smash down to about half an inch thick. Sprinkle with salt and pepper immediately.
  4. Cook for about 3 minutes until juices bubble on top, then flip and add cheese to melt while cooking for another 2 minutes.
  5. Toast burger buns cut-side down on the griddle until golden brown.
  6. Assemble by layering lettuce, tomato slices, pickles, and the cheeseburger patty on each bun before topping with the other half.

Notes

  • Always use high-fat ground beef (80/20) for the juiciest burgers.
  • Don’t press down too hard when smashing; you want that crispy edge without losing the moisture.
  • Let your patties rest briefly before serving to lock in those delicious flavors!
